You are responsible for ensuring that you maintain your home after construction. The following guides provide information about responsibilities post construction.

Termite Management
It is important that you are aware of the termite management system installed to protect your home. The installation notices left by your contractor (usually in the meter box and a kitchen cupboard) detail the system/s in place. Most chemical and physical barriers require regular inspections and possible re-treatment at the very least annually. This will not prevent termite attack but may help in early detection and remedial treatment to minimise damage. You should retain records of any inspections carried out.

The Termite Management - What Homeowners Need to Know fact sheet is designed to provide you with basic advice on termite management.

It is important that you:
  • Know what type of termite management system is in place
  • Comply with the maintenance and inspection requirements to maintain any warranty
  • Should give consideration to using the original licenced pest controller who installed the termite management system

If you plan to make alterations to your home you should consider the impact the work may have on the termite management system installed. The construction of footpaths, garden beds, landscaping / turfing, patios or pergolas etc may breach or diminish the capacity of your termite system and allow an infestation.
