To apply for a certifier licence you must:
1. Complete and return the
Application For Licence as a Building Certifier Form
(via mail or in person) along with the appropriate fee (on initial application this will be the application fee and annual fee combined). The form contains useful information on applying for a certifier licence and should be read thoroughly
2. Provide your official Accreditation Certificate from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS)
3. Complete the Proof of Identity Declaration
4. Provide certification of Professional Indemnity Insurance cover issued in your or your employers name if applying for Private Certification Endorsement
5. Provide evidence of completion of the mandatory course Issuing Development Permits for Building Work - where you are wishing to issue Development Permits (building approvals) for building work as a private certifier.

Note: PI Insurance is only required if an applicant wishes to obtain private certification endorsement to act as a private certifier.
Mutual Recognition
If you hold a similar licence or registration within another Australian State/Territory or jurisdiction within New Zealand, you may be entitled to gain a licence under the Mutual Recognition or Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Principle. If applying for a licence under mutual recognition, please refer to the "Guideline for Building Certifier Licences Issued Under Mutual Recognition".
