What is the role of a certifier?

  • Carry out assessments of building work relating to new or altered buildings and structures.
  • Assess and decide whether building works comply with the building laws operating within the State.
  • Undertake inspections of buildings throughout stages of construction to determine if proper standards have been met.
  • Issue certificates of inspection and/or non-compliance notices after carrying out required building inspections.
  • Issue final inspection certificates or certificates of classification for completed building work.
  • Where necessary, to take enforcement action to remedy non-compliant building work.
